It is a way to narrow things down, not a diagnosis. A local extension office or a certified arborist can confirm a problem from a sample or a visit.

Call a certified arborist when

  • a large dead or cracked limb is over the house, the driveway or a play area,
  • the trunk has a new lean, a long crack or mushrooms at the base,
  • the work is near power lines.
